I am Laura Stanley, author of Don’t get Diabetes: a short and simple guide. I am a registered nurse, yoga teacher, artist, author, wife and mother of 3 children. I have always been passionate about health, fitness, and overall well-being. Working with my husband, Chris Stanley MD, an obstetrician and gynecologist in Daytona Beach, FL, over the last few years, we’ve seen a trend in women. They are busy, stressed, gaining weight, and exercising less. They try diets and may have some limited success, but it is only temporary. When they come in for an exam, they almost always end up showing clinical signs of insulin resistance. They don’t realize that they are on the path to becoming diabetic. Some may be diagnosed with “prediabetes”. When they learn how to change their eating habits and exercise, they start to lose weight and reverse the path. It’s not effortless, but learning to make the right food choices makes getting healthy so much easier. It makes achieving a healthy weight so much easier.
There are a lot of books out that can serve as guides. Many that I’ve read a full of really useful, detailed information about the physiological process of glucose metabolism and the effect on blood sugar and insulin levels. I wanted to create a shortened, easier to read guide, something un-intimidating and useful. I hope that I’ve succeeded.
